Albertha "Bert" Potter, 77, a former resident of Bennington and more recently of Buskirk, NY, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Born in Bennington on May 17, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Marion (Snow) Allen. She received her education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Bennington Catholic High School.
Bert married William L. Potter Sr. on July 16, 1960 at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church in Bennington. Bill died February 26, 2010.
In earlier years Bert served as a teacher's aide at Molly Stark School. She later worked for many years at Salem's Market, later Henry's Market, until the time of her retirement.
Bert was a long time member and active volunteer at both the Bennington Moose Lodge and Bennington Eagles Club for many years. Bert always had a strong love of animals, especially for her cat and two dogs.
Survivors include a son, William L. Potter Jr. of Buskirk, NY and a son and daughter-in-law, Trampas and Vicki Potter of Bennington; six grandchildren, Jessica Potter of Bennington, Kyle and Danielle Potter of Grantham, NH, Matthew and Joshua Potter of North Conway, NH and Jeffrey and Nathan Potter of Bennington; a great-granddaughter, Declan Potter of Bennington; six step-grandchildren, Adam and Michal Hovak of New Hartford, NY, Corey and Maureen Hovak of Latham, NY, Taryn and Andrew Putney of Stillwater, NY; six step great-grandchildren, Aiden & Madelyn Hovak, Mikayla and Kylie Hovak and Eva Grace of Putney, VT and Kellan Putney; a brother Ret. Col. Carlton Allen, USAF of San Antonio, TX and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bert was predeceased by two sons, Brian and Matthew Potter; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Potter, a step-grandson, Jacob Butler and a sister, Bonnie Keyes.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, March 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
Burial will take place in the family lot at White Chapel Cemetery
