Adele Mary Kahwajy

March 24, 1939 — January 16, 2022

Adele Mary Kahwajy was born March 24, 1939 to "Massoud" Mitchell Amen Kahwajy and Krimi Mary Davis Kahwajy of Bennington, VT. She attended local schools, Saint Francis de Sales Academy and graduated from Bennington High School. She was accepted to UVM in Burlington, VT majoring in Liberal Arts. Her sister Laraine attended her college graduation festivities. It was a fun time and the trip home was filled with laughter.

Adele, from an early age, spoke Arabic fluently. She loved to read, played piano and loved the classics. She enjoyed family gatherings with relatives and friends that stopped by for a visit. She loved summer vacations in Bethel and New London, CT with the Davis and Nahas' families; The Kahwajy family reunions at the Elks Club with relatives near and as far away as Mexico and Australia.

Shortly after graduating from college, Adele left for San Francisco to start a new adventure in life. Her dreams soon became a reality at Wekovia Bank, where she was a Fault Auditor at several branches; met her lifelong companion, Peter; finally learned to drive; bought her first car and was there during the earthquake of 1985. After 21 years, the bank owners relocated her to San Antonio, Texas where she worked in the Foreclosure Department for another 21 years; receiving awards for her work performance and making regular trips to Vermont.

Her favorite sayings were, "I'm Home Again, Home Again" and with a shout, "I'm Here". And at the end of her visit "I'll be back".

Adele fell in love with San Antonio. She volunteered at the local library near her apartment, opened up her home to Service Men from the nearby Base who couldn't make it home to enjoy the Holiday Dinners.

Her hobbies included Book Club, crafts (making decorative cards), active in the GOP Republican Party, collected art and enjoyed "Eating Out!" Adele faithfully donated to the Paralyzed Veterans of America. In 2019 she was awarded Honorary Member for 23 years of support. Adele was diagnosed with Advanced Alzheimer's Dementia in 2020 and was placed in a Personal Care Home in Texas until her death.

Adele is survived by her sister Laraine Niles, nephew, Thomas G. Burke Jr. and his wife Jenny Gabor Burke of the Philippians & PA, niece, Michelle Booth and great nieces, Taylor and Emma Booth of Maryland, great nephews, Zechariah Burke of PA and CA, Christopher Pruden, his wife Ashley and baby Roman of N.J., lifelong friend and relative, George and Rosemary Sleeman and many cousins in Florida, MA, TX and CA including, Donna Garner and lifelong companion Donald Duebriel. She was pre-deceased by a nephew, Stephen "Joey' Gray

She loved her Vermont home. Her only wish was to make one more trip to visit with family and friends. Thanks to all who sent well wishes on Face Book, cards and phone calls over the years.
