BENNINGTON
Louria Tessier, 88, a resident of Putnam Street, Bennington, died Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation.
Born in North Adams, Massachusetts on October 4, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Sylvia (Dupree) Tessier.
In earlier years Louria was employed at the Nancy Shoe Company and Wall Streeter Shoes in North Adams. She later worked at General Cable Company in Pownal and at the time of her retirement was employed as a custodian at Mt. Anthony Union High School.
A devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, Louria was a member of St. Anne's Society at the church and also served as a Sacristan for many years. Louria also recorded masses at the church for CAT-TV for several years. She enjoyed oil painting and repairing broken sets of rosary beads. Louria was an outstanding craft person and created many outstanding items for her friends and family.
At the age of 65 Louria went back to school and was awarded a high school diploma through the Bennington Tutorial Center. In 1991 she was chosen by the State of Vermont as a delegate to the the National Adult Literacy Congress in Washington, D.C. where she was the recipient of a certificate from President George H. W. Bush.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Theresa Woodward and by her twelve older siblings.
The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christin Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 9:30 until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery in North Bennington.
