James "Jim" Condon, age 73, a resident of Penny Lane in Bennington died on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
He was born in Hoosick Falls, NY on July 23, 1942 and was the son of the late Clark and Florence (Papers) Condon. Jim received his education in Queensbury and Fort Ann, NY.
Jim served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968 until 1969. He is a recipient of a Purple Heart. He later served with the National Guard.
He married the former Patricia O'Connell on November 22, 1972 at the Good Shepard Church in Glens Falls, NY
Mr. Condon had been employed for many years by the Town of Bennington, retiring in 2002.He later worked for the town of Shaftsbury maintaining their cemeteries until he retired in 2008. For seven years he had worked at Wal-Mart in the Lawn and Garden Department.
He was a former member of the VFW and the American Legion Post 13 of Bennington. He enjoyed working around the house, doing yard work, gardening and decorating during the holidays.
Survivors include his children: Melody May and Robert of North Carolina, Patrick Condon and Nikki of North Carolina, James Condon, Jr. and Audrey of Queensbury, NY, and Crystal Condon and Abigail of Bennington, VT.
He leaves twelve grandchildren, his great grandchildren, one brother; Clark Condon and Sarah of Queensbury, NY, and two sisters; Geraldine Smith and Edward Duckett of Glens Falls, NY and Fern Condon of Utica, NY.
Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive. He is predeceased by his wife Patricia, one brother, Gary Condon, and his sister, Helen Condon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 7, 2016 at 10:00aAM at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery, with military honors.
At Jim's request there will not be any calling hours.
