Harry J. McDermott, 49, a resident of Bennington, died Saturday March 12, 2022 at his residence following a brief illness.
He was born in Bennington, VT December 9, 1972. He was the son of the late Harry J. McDermott Sr. and Molly (Derosia) McDermott. Harry received his education in Arlington and was a 1991 graduate of Arlington Memorial High School. He later studied abroad in Oxford, England where he received his degree as a master gardener.
Harry worked as a horticulturist in both England and Spain. He later moved back to Vermont and started his own landscaping business, Le Petite Jardinier with his father and his brother Albert.
Harry loved gardening and building stone walls. He also enjoyed his vintage vehicles including Land Rovers, Willy's, VWs and BSA motorcycles. Harry was very well liked by many. His nieces and nephews adored him. (Uncle Harry affectionately called them 'the gremlins'.) He was an amazing writer of poems and short stories. Harry loved dogs, especially his dog "Archie".
Survivors include four brothers, Jeffrey King of Maine, Matthew King of South Carolina, Albert McDermott (Samantha) of Arlington, VT and Micheal McDermott (Jessie) of Manchester, VT. His nieces, Hollie, Maia and Harmony and nephews, Hunter and Mason. He was pre-deceased by a cousin P.J. Derosia, who was like a brother and his two bulldogs Gucci and Hugo.
The family would like to thank Cindy for everything she did to try and help Harry when he needed it most.
There will be no formal services at this time at Harry's request.
