Lillian C."Lil" Wood, 88, a longtime resident of Peaceful Meadow in Arlington, Vermont died on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation following a long illness.
Born on Maple Hill in Shaftsbury on December 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Burton and Ella (Potter) Cross. Lil received her early education at the Maple Hill School in Shaftsbury and was a 1948 graduate of Bennington High School.
She married Roger G. Wood on April 13, 1952. Roger died January 10, 2013.
From 1950 to 1968 Lil was employed at Mack Molding in Arlington. She later worked at the Eveready Battery Company in Bennington for 25 years from which she retired in August, 1996.
Lil was a member of the Federated Church of East Arlington for over 50 years. She was a member of the Taconic Grange since she was 14 years old and its first woman Master. She was also a member of Pomona Grange, State Grange, National Grange and most recently the Battenkill Grange. She served as a State Grange Deputy for 12 years. Lil was a member of the American Legion Post 69 Auxiliary in Arlington. She enjoyed camping and traveling and was a member of the Green Mountain Travelers club and the Good Sam Club. She enjoyed harness racing, reading and was a volunteer at the Helping Hand in Arlington.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dale Wood of Arlington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Harold, Edward and Robert Cross.
The funeral will be held from the Federated Church of East Arlington on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Kathleen S. Clark, pastor, officiating.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Private committal services will be held at the Center Shaftsbury Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
