Lois R. Wade, 88, a resident of Route 7A, Shaftsbury, died peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Bennington Health and Rehab following a long illness.

Born in Saratoga Springs, NY on June 19, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Bonnie (Vanderwerker) Stone. Lois received her early education in the Saratoga schools and was a 1949 graduate of Bennington High School.
Lois married Charles C. Wade on October 27, 1951 at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. Mr. Wade died in 1993.
In earlier years she was employed by the Bennington Banner and then worked for many years in local post offices as both a clerk and rural carrier. Following her retirement from the post office Lois owned and operated Wade’s Café and Deli in Shaftsbury until she retired for the second time.
Over the years Lois enjoyed bowling, golf, playing the piano, refinishing furniture and reading. When her children were young she also served as a Brownie Leader.
Lois was the loving mother of four children, Brian (Judy) Wade of Shaftsbury, JoAnne Wade of Colorado Springs, CO; Tami (Jeffrey) Mattison of Shaftsbury and Robin Wade of Shaftsbury. She is also survived by her significant other, Charles O. Becker of Shaftsbury; by four grandchildren, Brian (Susan) Wade II of New Hampshire, Joshua (Emily Becker) Longton of Shaftsbury, Cortland Wade of Mississippi and Cody (Madeline Gardner) Wade of Bennington; two step-grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Tifft of Shaftsbury and Jeffrey (Ellisa) Mattison Jr. of Bennington; two great-grandchildren, Addison Lois and Lucas Alexander Wade; seven step-great-grandchildren, Jessica Priest, Jackie, Deklen and d’Artagnan Tifft and Jaxson Reed, Justin and Milie Mattison; a sister, Jean White of Queensbury, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lois was predeceased by a brother and sister, Eugene Stone and Wilma Dennis.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Lois R. Wade will be held from the Shaftsbury United Methodist Church on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard McSherry, pastor, officiating.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
