BENNINGTON- Joyce Marie (Knights) Conklin-Burgess 84, a resident of Bennington, Vermont passed away peacefully on September 3rd, 2022 following a brief illness.
Born on May 27th 1938, in Bennington, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Doris (Harrington) Knights. Joyce was raised in Bennington and received her education in the Bennington schools and graduated from Bennington High School in 1956.
On August 24th, 1956 she married her first husband Charles H. Conklin Jr. They were married for over 30 years when Charles passed away on May 27th, 1989. She later married her second husband Harold E. Burgess on May 2nd, 1992. They were married for nearly 15 years when Harold passed away on October 11th, 2006.
In her professional life, Joyce was a Foodservice supervisor for Bennington Convalescent center. She dedicated over 27 years and retired in 1994.
Joyce was a dedicated member of Green Mountain Christian Center. She loved attending Sunday service and participating in a bible study group.
Besides her church, Joyce also enjoyed spending time at Bennington Project Independence, playing games of all kinds, singing, going to tag sales, crafts, cooking, telling stories and making friends.
Joyce was a people person that would do anything to help another person or family. Her children grew up with many different families and individuals that Joyce would take in and help while they were down on their luck. Joyce was happy to open her heart and her home to whoever needed it.
Joyce is survived by her children; Charles H. Conklin III (Heather) Apollo Beach, Florida; Willis S. Conklin Sr. of Sunderland, Vermont and his partner Laurie Morgan of Salem, NY; Gladys E. Conklin of North Bennington, Vermont; Lori J. Brace (Robert T.) of Sunderland, Vermont; Cheryl L. Conklin of Bennington, Vermont; David B Conklin (Jo-Ann) of Bennington, Vermont; James S. Conklin (Darcy Hunt) of Cambridge, NY as well as a daughter in law; Sara Conklin of Raymond, New Hampshire. Her Step Children; Daniel D. Burgess (Debbie) of Shaftsbury, VT; Nancy A. Muir (Robert) of Pownal, VT; and Barbara Jean Brambley (Charles W.) of Shaftsbury, VT
Joyce is survived by 24 Grandchildren; Samantha, Ernie, Casey, Christina, Charles H. IV, Amanda, Willis Jr., Brett, Madalyn, Jessica, Michelle, Jennifer B, Ashley, Jennifer G, Donny, Deanna, Kyle, Devon, Mallory, Sarah, Raina, Geoffrey, Scott and Holly. Joyce is also survived by a few special friends Dianne Peters, Linda Sweet, Ellie Metcalfe, Pat Becker and Dorothy Roy as well as many other friends. She is also survived by 33 great grandchildren and Wayne Laverty who was like a son to Joyce.
Joyce also leaves behind her beloved cat Winston.
Joyce is Predeceased by her son Ernest E. Conklin who passed in 2016. A stepdaughter, Linda Lee Burgess; and two sisters Pauline Mae. and Edna Jean.
Visitation for Joyce will be at the Green Mountain Christian Center in Bennington, on September 17th starting at 10 am. A memorial service will begin at 11 am. Immediately following the service, the family will follow in procession to White Chapel Cemetery for the Graveside Services.
