Obituary for James Harte

James Harte
BENNINGTON

James W. Harte, 53, a resident of West Main Street, Bennington, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at his residence.

Born in Bennington on May 27, 1964, he was the son of the late Judge John B. Harte and Gertrude (Cone) Harte. Jim received his elementary schooling in Bennington, his middle schooling at St. Mary’s in Hoosick Falls, his secondary schooling at Marianapolis High School in Thompson, CT and received his Bachelors from Siena College. As a teenager Jim was employed at the Harte Theatre and the Paradise Restaurant in Bennington. Prior to his retirement Jim was employed at the Sherwin-Williams store in Brattleboro and later in Bennington.

Jim was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and followed the team to many stadiums throughout the country. He was also a fan of the Boston Celtics and Dallas Cowboys.

Jim’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of both Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and the Berkshire Medical Center who helped Jim during his illness over the years and also to those people who helped with the care of his property on Main Street.

Just a few days before his death Jim lost his faithful companion, his bulldog “Vito”.

Jim is survived by a sister, Jacqueline Harte of Enfield, CT; a niece, Laura Pleasant of North Bennington; two nephews, Eric Pleasant (Angela Salmon) of Hinsdale, NH and Matthew Pleasant of Seattle, WA; and a great-nephew, Brentley Salmon.

He was predeceased by a brother, John B. Harte III and a niece, Aimee Pleasant.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, February 16, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Burial will take place in the family lot at Park Lawn Cemetery.

Should friends desire memorial contributions in James W. Harte’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Program through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
